    Aikido Intro

Aikido is a form of Japanese martial arts that has a history dating back to 800 years ago. What differentiates Aikido from other martial arts is that the aim is not to fight back, it’s to become one with your opponent. Doing this allows you to be stronger and more effective without requiring excessive force. There are no combat matches and you neither win nor lose in Aikido, making it an art that’s safe to enjoy. Added to that, Aikido can be learnt by persons of any age, both male and female with the guarantee that you will improve if you practice.

     Yoshinkan Aikido

The style of Aikido that children learn in this club is called Yoshinkan Aikido. It was created by Gozo Shioda at 1956 and has had a steady following since. It is known that is this is the only Aikido style adopted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, making it a well-recognized form of martial arts used in law enforcement. Yoshinkan Aikido is popular as an activity not only in Japan, but all over the world.
